PJ's

A little unsure whether these Pajamas fall into the Recycled Fashion genre or Recycled Sewing category. Are PJ's considered fashion? I didn't really think so..

The black and flouro car fabric I have used to make PJ's for Jnr Recycled, I picked up at the op shop in April. I purchased a PJ sewing pattern a while back from Salvos, which I've finally put to use. As usual, all materials have been thrifted, including buttons and thread, except for the interfacing from my sewing stash, originally purchased new from Spotlight.

Bright, aren't they?! The whole ensemble cost less $2 to make.

Tie romper suit

A quick gift for a friends newborn boy. Long sleeve romper suit, bought in Savers but still new with the tag on $5! Tie, op-shop. This tie would be terrible worn on a man, but on this little romper suit, it looks cute! I cut the thin bit off the tie, a little knot, and machine stitched onto the romper.

More t's and fabric

I finished off the last two tie t's today, this time I managed to score the long sleeve t-shirt and grey short sleeve t-shirt from Salvos last Friday. Washed, and dried before sewing mini ties in place. The cool thing about these two t's; they are a Christmas gift for two brothers, a 5yr old and an 18 month old. I think they will look cool together =)

I also bought some brilliant fairy fabric from an op shop in Parkdale. So girly, so cute. I am making a chalk mat out of it today, and still got loads left for another project in the future.

Mini tie T's for kids

Out of some of the thrifted mens necktie fabric I've had leftover from my necktie owl project, I made a mini tie to sew onto one of my son's plain white hand-me-down t-shirts. I liked the way it turned out, so I decided to make more as Christmas gifts for friends kids this year.

I feel terribly guilty about this, but I did in fact buy two new blank t-shirts. I would prefer to source everything second hand, and these t-shirts were the first 'new' clothing items I've bought in well over a year. I'm just not sure I could give second hand clothing as gifts for friends kids? The mens necktie fabric is of course second hand.

First Award!

I started writing Recycled Sewing to supplement my first blog Recycled Fashion. I started sewing as a result of my interest in adjusting vintage / second-hand fashion, which soon progressed to other items I make from recycled materials. I wanted Recycled Fashion to remain its focus on fashion, and thus Recycled Sewing was born.

I'm feeling very flattered today, as I've just received my first blog award for Recycled Sewing; the Beautiful Blogger Award.

Photobucket

The lovely Dee over at BabyGalah , awarded me with this honour. Thank you so much Dee! Have you seen some of her creations? She is very talented:

Isnt this vintage girl onesie just gorgeous?

The rules of this award require me to nominate another 10 bloggers the 'Beautiful Blogger Award' so here goes:

1. Kitty n' Kitsch I know George has already received this award, but I just adore her little handmade childrens boats, so I award her again =)

2. The Posh Op Shopper by Je T'aime Vintage for her collection of beautiful vintage clothes

3. Giggles Down Under A beautiful photographic blogging journey of a family leaving Maui to move to Australia

4. I am Pink A blog about a dog! called Pinky Deluxe, who showed up needing help at the Merced Animal Shelter in Central CA, United States, and found a new family home.

5. Little Food Junction A blogger from India who creates absolutely magnificent food for picky eaters..children!

OK so I know I am supposed to nominate 10 bloggers, I do read other blogs all of the time, but these are my top 5 beautiful blogs I can think of right now. Enjoy!

A handmade dress & matching card

A gift for a little girl; a pillowcase dress with matching card made from scraps of the same fabric.

The pretty pink pillowcase, $1 from Savers. I used the bottom 'hem' of the pillowcase, and used a size 1 dress (that I unstitched) as a template to cut around. Rather than sewing a drawstring neck, I cut straps from white ribbon - scraps I found in my local op shop, and stitched to the inside of the neckline. I always pick up little sewing gems from my local op shop haberdashery box!

A matching card, using the same pillowcase fabric and some lace from my sewing box, machine stitched to a blank card.

Machine stitched greetings cards

I've made a t-shirt for a friends boy's 6th birthday, out of a plain black t-shirt purchased from Salvos, together with a dinosaur pillowcase and some bias binding. Here it is:

I also made a card to match the gift, which is completely recycled. The blank cards I bought from an etsy seller, they are made with recycled paper/card. I used a square of the same dinosaur pillowcase that I used for the t-shirt, and a picture cut from a dinosaur book that a lady at the op shop gave to me, because it was damaged:

And here is the card - I used a glue stick to hold in place, and then machine stitched over the top. I think it turned out well, so now this is how I will make my Christmas cards!

Vintage Tea Towel Sunhat

I'm really into vintage tea towels of late, having purchased a Gold Coast tourist tea towel from Salvos last week. I am going to make my tea towel into a bag, which I will blog about next (in the process of sewing!).

In the meantime, I have been searching for other things to make from vintage tea towels, and found this brilliant childrens sun hat on etsy, made by a Melbourne artisan sueneale. It is made from a Kakadu National Park vintage tea towel. Love those green and yellows with the frill necked lizard, ideal for an adventurous little boy!

USD$35 by sueneale.

Some people are so clever!
